What is the Plagiarism feature and how does it work in ESO ?

Plagiarism feature and detailed report:

  • The Plagiarism feature detects content similarity by locating instances of plagiarism or copyright infringement of content on a particular page. Plagiarism of a page is measured using a metric - Similarity score.
  • Similarity score is displayed in terms of percentage as a pie chart. Three different colors are used to differentiate the similarity score categories.
    • Green color if between 0% to 20% - Acceptable
    • Orange color if between 21% to 30% - Need to Improve
    • Red color if above 30% - Not Acceptable
  • Plagiarism report in ESO application is categorized into four sections namely
    • Plagiarism check report section
    • Plagiarism detailed report
    • Plagiarism detailed report - PDF Report
    • View Scan Result section

Plagiarism check report section:

  • To verify plagiarism for a webpage, the URL that needs to be checked shall be given as an input in the URL field. After that, the Scan button shall be clicked to add the request to the analysis queue.
  • First the URL given as input will be displayed with ‘In Progress’ state until the report is generated.
  • Once the report generation is complete, the static ‘In Progress’ button will change into an active button named View Report.
  • Clicking on the ‘View Report’ will take the user to the Plagiarism detailed report.
  • The status of the report shall be displayed at the bottom of the page in a table format. By default, the last 6 month’s data will be displayed here. The report shall also be viewed for a custom time period by selecting the required month and year.
  • The table will have all the data mentioned below:
    • Date of request
    • URL checked
    • Total Words checked
    • Total similarity found (Count)
    • Total matched words (count)
    • Similarity score (in percent) as a pie chart (Green color if between 0% to 20%, Orange color if between 21% to 30%, and Red color if above 30%)
    • Status (Link to view detailed report or 'In progress' status display)
  • Similarity Score is the percentage of content similarity of the content used in a page with the matching page. The Similarity Score is displayed in terms of percentage.

Plagiarism check

Plagiarism detailed report:

  • To access the Plagiarism detailed report, the user needs to click the ‘View report’ button in the Plagiarism check report section.
  • The URL for which the report has been generated and the date of report generation will be displayed at the top of this page.
  • Five KPI’s are used to display the below details in this page:
    • Date of Scan
    • Total Words
    • Total similarity Word count
    • Total Matching URLs
    • Similarity score (in percent) as pie chart (Green color if between 0% to 20%, Orange color if between 21% to 30%, and Red color if above 30%)
  • List of all matching URLs is displayed in a table format with the below details:
    • Total words on page
    • Total words matching count from the page 
    • Percentage of matched words (Green color if between 0% to 20%, Orange color if between 21% to 30%, and Red color if above 30%)
    • Date page was found
    • And a button 'Scan Result'
  • The user can also export this report as a PDF using the 'PDF' button shown at the top right corner of the screen.

Plagiarism Checker

Plagiarism detailed report - PDF Report

  • The PDF report can be downloaded by clicking on the 'PDF' button shown at the top right corner of the Plagiarism detailed report page.
  • The PDF report will display the page elements like the on screen report
  • Whenever the Plagiarism detailed report is generated for a URL, the report in PDF format is sent to the email address associated with the ESO tool account. 

View Scan Result section

  • ‘Scan Result’ button is available in the Plagiarism detailed report page.
  • When the Scan result for the URL is selected, the user will reach the scan report of the URL which displays the targeted website with matching words highlighted.
  • Three KPI’s are used to display the below details in this page:
    • Total Words on Page
    • Total Matching words
    • Percent Matching (in percent) as pie chart (Green color if between 0% to 20%, Orange color if between 21% to 30%, and Red color if above 30%
  • The user can also export this report as a PDF using the 'PDF' button shown at the top right corner of the screen.
